EXCURSION OPTIONS
During online registration (opening for contact youth leaders March 6 and for youth and youth leaders March 21), you may choose ONE of these off-site excursions on either Wednesday or Thursday afternoon, June 26 or 27 (for an additional cost). Youth must be accompanied by a youth leader from their group. As excursions fill, they will be closed. Excursions are coordinated by CSU Conference & Event Services.
Whitewater Rafting
the Poudre River
Adventurous, Class II, III, & IV Rapids: $110.00

The excitement seekers won’t want to miss whitewater rafting on Colorado’s only “Wild and Scenic River” near Fort Collins, the Cache la Poudre (pronounced poo-dur) River! The Poudre offers some of the closest, most exciting, and still somewhat unknown whitewater rafting in the state. Its almost continuous rapids keep your adrenaline flowing, and the chances to see eagles, deer, black bear, and big horn sheep will keep your eyes open. Be prepared to get wet during your roughly 3 hours on the water!

BRING: A dry change of clothes, shoes, towel, and sunscreen/sun protection. You may want a bathing suit to wear under your river clothes that can get wet. Wear shoes on the river that strap or tie on—no flip flops.

Looking for the excitement of whitewater rafting on the Cache la Poudre (pronounced poo-dur) River, but with more chances to catch your breath and take in the scenery? These beginner/intermediate trips along Colorado’s only “Wild and Scenic River” near Fort Collins will give you a full taste of that outdoorsy Colorado lifestyle and plenty of opportunities to revel in the natural wonders surrounding us in Colorado’s Front Range. Be prepared to get wet during your roughly 3 hours on the water!

Mountain Activity Getaway
at the University of Denver Kennedy Mountain Campus: $140.00

Explore the mountain terrain and peaceful, remote location of the University of Denver’s Kennedy Mountain Campus. Here you’ll have the chance to:
Option 1: (no longer available) test your limits on the challenge course and rock climb on lakeside cliffs.
Option 2: (no longer available) invite the thrill of alpinism ascending crags on one of northern Colorado’s only via ferrata courses and hike rugged terrain.
Option 3: (no longer available) tour the views and valleys while horseback riding! Choose one option during registration.

BRING: Wear closed-toed shoes, wear long pants (if horseback riding), bring a day pack with extra clothing layers and sun protection (you’ll be at over 7,600′ above sea level!), bring at least one 1-liter sealable water bottle and snacks for the bus ride home.

Hiking Trails
in Lory State Park: $50.00

A short ride from CSU will take you into Lory State Park, where you and your group will select from several self-guided hiking trails in the foothills of the Colorado Rockies. Lory State Park, adjacent to Horsetooth Reservoir, boasts over 26 miles of hiking trails and elevations ranging from 5,500′ to 7,000′. Here you can spend time taking in the beauty of the outdoors at your own pace from the Soldier Canyon Group Picnic Area, watch the boaters on Horsetooth Reservoir, or select from the many trails available to seek quiet valleys or sweeping vistas of the Rockies and the Plains. Please make sure you are knowledgeable and prepared to be self-sufficient in the outdoors—no professional hiking guides are scheduled at this time.

Old Town Fort Collins
Scavenger Hunt and Shopping: $30.00
Sign on for an active adventure with your team! Led via your smartphone by professional scavenger hunt providers, Let’s Roam–City Scavenger Hunts, this scavenger hunt will take you into unique spots in Old Town, challenge your brain, and test your team skills while you solve puzzles and compete against other WELS Youth Rally teams in this 1.5-hour-long game. You’ll cover nearly 2 miles and half a dozen different locations in Old Town Fort Collins on this virtual scavenger hunt, testing all kinds of knowledge and creativity! You will also have time to explore the shops and treats of Fort Collins’ Old Town, the inspiration for Disney World’s “Main Street USA.”

Fort Collins Museum of Discovery
Museum of Discovery: $30.00
You will find a whole new museum experience when you visit the FCMoD—a combination of history, science, and culture; lots of hands-on exhibits and activities; the Archive; beautiful outdoor spaces with interactive musical instruments; fully-equipped classrooms; rooftop observation deck; and the state-of-the-art immersive experience of the Digital Dome Theater. The museum will offer private showings of two Digital Dome Theater movies: Losing the Dark—Light Pollution and Our Vanishing Starry Skies and a Music Dome Show with a soundtrack of popular music.
